A Liebster Award nomination

Thank you Josh Gross for the nomination (I’ve just realised it has been a month since the nomination, and it’s gone way too quickly).

So here goes:

Rules

This version of the Liebster Award has five rules. They are:

  1. Acknowledge the blog who nominated you.
  2. Answer the 11 questions your nominator asked.
  3. Nominate 11 other bloggers.
  4. Ask them 11 questions.
  5. Let them know you have nominated them.

My responses to questions

What are your favourite types of posts to create, and why?

I’ve enjoyed writing about science talks I’ve been to recently. These posts have encouraged me to read around the talks and engage with them more deeply than I otherwise would have.

Where do you do your best writing?

Generally when I’m at home, although writing in the library is also nice.

What is your typical process for creating blog posts? For example, do you write several drafts before publishing a post? Or do you hammer it out in one go?

With shorter posts, I tend to write it in one go, which I used to do for most of my posts. I currently have a few drafts/ideas for future posts saved, which I have come to prefer recently.

Do you engage in other forms of art, besides writing? If so, which ones?

Not currently, although I’m thinking of starting a YouTube channel to go alongside this blog.

What is your favourite book or book series, and why?

Good question! My answer seems to change often, but at the moment my favourite book (and the last one I read) was This is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay. He has taken situations we don’t often talk about and explored them in a humorous light.

Where do you feel most at home?

Where I grew up and my university city.

What is your favourite food?

I like Spanish and Greek food.

If you could travel anywhere, all expenses paid, where would it be?

I have the feeling “around the world” is a cheat answer. I’ve wanted to travel to Australia for a long time.

What was your favourite subject in school, and why?

Sciences, mainly due to some fantastic teachers.

Have you spent time outside today?

Yes!

If your answer to the previous question was, “Yes,” then what did you do? If it was, “No,” then why not?

I went for a jog.

My 11 questions (in no particular order):

  1. What is your favourite animal (and why)?
  2. How long does it take you to write a blog post?
  3. What languages do you speak?
  4. What was the last book you read?
  5. What was the last skill you learned?
  6. What musicians do you feel are underrated?
  7. What pets do you have?
  8. Following on from the last question, what pets do you want to have?
  9. Should pineapple go on pizza?
  10. What was your first blog post?
  11. And finally, is there a place you think everyone should visit at least once in their life?

The 11 blogs I nominate for this award (again in no particular order) are:

Hayley from Zoologish.

Robert from The Non-Alcoholic Student.

Soph from Soph Talks Science!

Rory and Doodlepip from A Guy Called Bloke.

Thomas David Miles and Emma-Louise Crawford from Zoomology.

Adam at Gone Froggin.

Furious Electric at Marine Learning.

Amanda at Type One Geologist.

Simona from Under the Mirror.

Jack Haines from The Field Biologist.

Catherine Dale, Amanda Tracey and Sarah Wallace from Dispatches from the Field.

  1. Hi Katrina! Thanks for doing this post! I’ve found that writing multiple drafts of longer blog posts really helps to increase the quality of their final versions. In fact, I like to write multiple drafts of short posts (<400 words) too – when there's time.

  2. Hi, Katrina! You recently followed my blog, zoology4u.wordpress.com; I thank you so much. Though I manage this blog myself, there is need of another blogger to run this blog. Kindly ping me up, if you find any little Zoologist who can help run this blog along with me.
